Press Release: We are pleased to announce Pathways, a group exhibit presented at ST.ART Gallery, curated by Kendra Gourgue and assisted by Ajahee Sekkm-Miles. PATHWAYS is a call to the power of transporting oneself, memory building, honoring ancestral practices, and tool usage. In seeking to bring the artist and viewer outside of the visual norm, the tools and materials extend beyond the artworks, in hopes that you find new “paths” within creating art, and consider what builds your own journeys Pathways features 8 artists of African and Caribbean descent, whose identities and paths have been and continue to be formed by the lived experiences of immigration, assimilation, queerness, femmehood, gender nonconformity, and the many iterations and intersections that encapsulates the
Black identity. These pieces serve as a path to oneself, to hopes for distant imagined futures, and for returns to the cultures, ancestral practices, and knowledge lodged in our pasts.
